The day I received the scarf
I received the scarf at Starbucks after my boyfriend and I had not seen each other for a while. I usually wear neutral colors, so the reddish-orange yarn immediately surprised me. It was brighter than anything I would normally choose.
My first reaction focused on the finished object. I noticed the color, the size, and the handmade shape. Then he told me that he had knitted it himself. That information changed the way I looked at the scarf. It was no longer only something warm to wear. It was evidence of a process that had taken place while I was not there.
At that moment, I knew the scarf was personal, but I still did not understand how much time had gone into making it.
