How the meaning of the scarf changed
Wearing Someone Else’s Time
After receiving the scarf, I began wearing it on many of our winter dates. At first, the bright color still felt unusual because it did not match most of my clothes. Over time, however, the color became less important than the story connected to it.
When I put the scarf on, I think about the hours he spent learning a new skill, the sections he unraveled, and the work he continued during his exams. Even the uneven parts of the knitting changed in meaning. I no longer saw them as flaws. They showed where a person had made choices, corrected mistakes, and continued.
